| Steve Brown is CEO of Steve Brown Apartments (SBA), which was established in 1982 and is the largest private housing provider for students on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus.
Prior to establishing SBA, Brown was vice president and general counsel of Hillmark Corporation, a multi-state hotel and apartment company and worked as the supervising attorney in the Consumer Protection Division of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. During his tenure with Consumer Protection, he was instrumental in the process of state adoption of Landlord Tenant regulations, as well as other consumer protection efforts. While a student, he worked in Washington D.C. for Gerald R. Ford, the U.S. State Department and Ralph Nadar.
Brown is active in the community, having served on many boards and advisory committees serving the housing industry. Steve Brown Apartments is a recognized community leader and community partner with Downtown Madison, Inc., Smart Growth Madison, Inc., the Visitor and Convention Bureau and other civic organizations. Brown regularly supports the arts community, particularly Madison Civic Rep and the nationally recognized American Players Theater, and is active in his church. He is currently president of the largest rental housing industry organization, The Apartment Association of South Central Wisconsin.
Brown earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin. |
